Las muertes y los daños ocurrieron tres días después de que Ida azotara la región de la costa del Golfo el domingo como un huracán con vientos de más de 170 millas por hora.
Floodwaters in the Jamaica neighborhood of Nueva York‘s Queens borough killed a 45-year-old woman and a 22-year-old man, while a 48-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man died in Brooklyn, WCBS-TV of New York City reported.
The governors of both New York and New Jersey declared states of emergency as they grappled with heavy rains, high winds and flooding.
“We’re enduring an historic tiempo event tonight with record-breaking rain across the city, brutal flooding and dangerous conditions on our roads,” de Blasio wrote in a statement posted to Twitter late Wednesday.
He urged New Yorkers to “stay inside” as the remnants of Tormenta tropical Ida moved through the region.
